Second Quarter Homework
The first quarter of second grade I would like the main focus of homework to be on literacy skills.
*Please practice the weekly spelling lists a little each night. Remember our goal is for lifelong spelling, not just
memorization for a Friday test. (I will add some practice ideas and links later)
*Read, Read, Read!!! Did I mention READ!!!!??? Even though schedules can be busy at night, reading is
an integral skill that supports all other academic areas. Please help your child get into a good habit of reading
for at least 30 minutes a minimum of 4 nights a week. (More specific info. to come about reading!)
(Sept. 24) Now that I have a better grasp on each child's literacy skills I will work on sending home child-specific homework for children who need a little extra practice. If you have any questions about this homework please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanks!
September 26, 2013: Please print the forms below to practice our first and second quarter sight words. Sight words cannot be sounded out and must be memorized. Sight word fluency is important to support reading fluency and comprehension. Please feel free to cut apart these words and mix them up. We do not want the students simply memorizing them in this order. In about 3 weeks I will test all of the students on the first quarter words. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Next week we will send home information about a special home project for our second graders called Pumpkin Book Reports. They will be due the week of October 14 and we can't wait to share this project with you!
